JOHN L. FANT

JOHN L. FANT, section 2, township 49, range 9, was born in New Liberty, Owen county, Kentucky, December 17, 1842. His parents, Linn J. and Sophia (Yancy) Fant, were natives of Scott county, Kentucky, and came to Missouri in 1858, settling five miles north of Fulton, where his widow is still living. He died December 24, 1872, aged about sixty-five years.

John L. remained in the county during the war, and October 25, 1865, married Miss Cassie, daughter of Harvey Scott. Her mother was Mary J. Day, who came form Kentucky in about 1827, and settled the farm where J. L. is now living. She died January, 1883, and all of the family of children have died of consumption but one, Edward W., who is in Texas. Cassie died November 21, 1875, in her twenty-ninth year, leaving three children, viz.: Beulah, aged seventeen; Mary, aged fifteen, and William, aged thirteen.

Mr. F.’s second marriage was to Miss Kittie McLeod, September 15, 1880. Of this union there is one child, Herbert A. Mr. Fant settled at section 5, East Auxvasse, and lived there until about 1873, when he removed to his present home. The old farm contains 230 acres in a body, and is devoted to farming and stock growing. Mr. Fant is a member of the Baptist church and the Triple Alliance.
