ROBERT CALLISON, farmer. Mr. Callison’s parents, James and Nancy (Chick)Callison, came to this county from Kentucky in the pioneer days of the country, between 1820 and 1830. They settled on the farm about two and a half miles from where Robert now lives, for many years past known as the Callison farm. There they lived until their deaths, and reared their family.
Robert was born on the old homestead August 22, 1832. He has two sisters living: Martha A., wife of Moses Wilkerson, and Margaret, now Mrs. Richard Neatherton, of Clay county. One sister, besides, is deceased, the eldest of the family, Nancy, who died the wife of J. K. Payton. Robert Callison was reared on his father’s farm, and on the 3d of September, 1856, was married to Miss Sarah A. Allison, formerly of Pike county, Missouri.
Mr. Callison continued farming near the old family homestead until, 1864, when he enlisted in the Confederate service, under General Shelby, becoming a member of Captain Scholl’s company, and continued to keep to the music of the South until the close of the war, when he surrendered at Shreveport, Louisiana, having been in the service nine months.
Returning home after the war, Mr. Callison resumed farming, and in October, 1882, came to his present farm. Here he has a place of eighty acres, neatly and well improved. Mr. and Mrs. Callison have a family of two children: Jas. H., now twenty-five years old, and married to Polly A., daughter of N. A. Wilkerson, and Anna May, aged fourteen years. Mr. and Mrs. C. are both members of the Presbyterian church at Augusta.
