GREENBERRY D. BOYCE

GREENBERRY D. BOYCE, farmer. Robert C. Boyce, the father of Greenberry D., came to Callaway county from Lincoln county, Kentucky, where he was born and reared, in 1829, and located in Cote Sans Dessein township, where the following year he was married to Miss Senia A. Murphy, formerly of Harrison county, Kentucky. She was born in 1808. He February 7, 1806. They were married March 4, 1830, and continued to live in this township untilt [sic] their deaths. She died December 30, 1871; he, January 5, 1872, their deaths being but six days apart. They had a family of twelve children, seven sons and five daughters, of whom there are six still living, four sons and two daughters. The father was a man of great industry and energy and a good manager. He became one of the successful farmers of Cote Sans Dessein township. At his death he left an estate of 640 acres of good land and other valuable property.

Greenberry his third son was born on the 29th of August, 1835, and was reared on his father’s farm in this township. On reaching manhood he engaged in farming for himself, and on April 17, 1860, was married to Miss Mary Brown, daughter of John and Polly Brown, of Boone county, Missouri. Seven children have followed this union: John R., Mary E., Senia, William H., Sarah L., James C. and Lemuel R. One besides is deceased, Robert O. The mother of these died on the 6th of December, 1876. Three years afterwards on the 23d of November, 1879, Mr. Boyce was married to Miss Jane C. Courtwright, widow of the late Philip Courtwright. They have one child, Eliza J., born February 18, 1882. Mrs. Boyce has three children by her former marriage--Francenia, Edward L. and George D. Mr. Boyce has a good farm of 160 acres of land and is an energetic, thorough-going farmer, and well respected as a citizen. He is a member of the Presbyterian church and his wife is a member of the Baptist denomination.
