GEORGE ANDRIS, baker, confectioner and dealer in cigars, tobacco, etc. Mr. Andris was born in Germany, January 1, 1853, and was reared in his native country. He received a good education in the German language, and learned the baker’s trade, which he has since followed. Desiring to avail himself of the more favorable opportunities offered in this country than are to be found in Europe, for young men of industry and intelligence to establish themselves comfortable in life, in 1869 he came to America, and first stopped at Hannibal, Missouri, where he worked at his trade for eighteen months.

He then went to St. Louis and continued work as a baker until 1873, when he engaged in business on his own account. Mr. Andris carried on the baking business in the Mound City with success until 1880, when he came to Fulton and established his present business. This he has since carried on, and has built up a large custom. He keeps the best class of bread, confections, cigars and tobacco constantly on hand, and makes it a rule to obtain custom by deserving it

On the 20th of October, 1873, he was married to Miss Mary Baule, a young lady of French descent, born March 19, 1852. They have three children: George, Mary and Robert.
