Fulton Celebrates a Birthday
"To the Honorable the General Assembly of the State of Missouri, the undersigned citizens of Fulton pray your Honorable body to pass an Act extending to us a City Charter.” That simple request followed by the signatures of 104 local businessmen - everyone from lawyers to drug store owners, bankers and blacksmiths to barber/dentists - was approved by said general assembly, and the City of Fulton was born on March 14, 1859. The City of Fulton has planned a year long celebration, including Art and Jazz on the Hill at Westminster College on Saturday June 13. The Fulton Street Fair, June 19 - 20 will honor the Sesquicentennial. Special events include a fireworks display on Saturday, June 20. In the Fall, there will be a Concert in Veteran's Park. The celebration wraps up on Saturday, December 5, with the Jaycees Christmas Parade.
Where is it?At the library we often have patrons who need to find a particular cemetery, church, school, or historical town in Callaway County. We've put together some on this page: Callaway Places. Ameren gives up Callaway2 nuclear aspirations |
